Diplomatic Mission

After gaining independence on 21 March 1990, the Republic of Namibia established official diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany on this day and opened the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in the then Federal capital Bonn, in July 1992. In July 1999, the Namibian Embassy was one of the first African Embassies with accreditation in Germany to move to Berlin as part of the Federal Government’s relocation and was located in the Lützowcenter in Berlin-Tiergarten until 2008.

Since August 2008, the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in the Federal Republic of Germany has been located in the former Goldstein Villa and the current Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Berlin’s Westend.

The Embassy in Berlin is one of the many official representations of the Government of the Republic of Namibia worldwide and is part of the Namibian Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation under the leadership of the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Hon. Peya Mushelenga (since February 2024).

In addition to accreditation in the Federal Republic of Germany, the _Ambassador is also concurrently accredited to the Holy See, the Republic of Tűrkiye, the Republic of Poland and the Czech Republic.

The Namibian Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, administers the foreign policy of the Republic of Namibia worldwide and is responsible for shaping and coordinating the country’s external policy. Namibia maintains diplomatic relations with almost all countries represented at the United Nations.

According to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961, Article 22), the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia and the residence of the Ambassador are located on extra-territorial grounds, i.e. the premises including the Embassy or Residence are under special protection under international law.
